Steamranger Railway, Adelaide Hills and Hahndorf Day Tour

Barossa Breakfast Wine Tour Anchor
Visit the Adelaide Hills and Hahndorf before experiencing a piece of moving history to travel to Strathalbyn

Join us on a journey into the Adelaide Hills and take in the views of Adelaide and the coast, possibly spot a koala amongst a forest of native gums, retrace the journey of previous travellers through the valleys along the old roads, experience some of the quaint villages hidden away from the modern traveller, and visit a historic slice of Germany within the Adelaide Hills. The beer, food and pubs of Hahndorf alone will make you think you are sitting somewhere in Germany!

After lunch, build a head of steam and jump aboard the Steamranger Heritage Railway for your trip back in time and travel to the other side of the Adelaide Hills to the township of Strathalbyn where you will discover antiques, collectables, museums, art galleries and a historic building around every corner.

Itinerary

Enjoy a late start to your Sunday with our Steamranger Heritage Railway, Adelaide Hills and Hahndorf tour with a 10.00 am departure from the City of Adelaide. One of our driver guides will show you around the Adelaide Hills and Mount Lofty Ranges, through the quaint villages and picturesque scenery before arriving in the oldest German settlement in Australia, Hahndorf.

Hahndorf is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Australia and is a must visit for all who come to Adelaide. You will enjoy the time to explore the village at your own pace.

Mount Barker is a neighbouring township and the start point for the iconic Steamranger Heritage Railway which travels out of the Adelaide Hills, down to the South Coast of the Fluerieu Peninsula to Victor Harbor.

Board the Highlander Train for the return journey through the gumtrees and farming land to the heritage town of Strathalbyn.  If you enjoy exploring antique and collectable stores, doing a bit of retail therapy or sitting back with a drink on the banks of a river, this is the town for you.

  • Panoramic views of Adelaide from the Mount Lofty Summit Lookout

  • Quaint Adelaide Hills villages of Crafers, Stirling, Aldgate and Bridgewater

  • Hahndorf, the oldest German settlement in Australia home to a large collection of Artisan shops and historic buildings housing cellar doors, a brewery, butchers, bakers and candlestick makers, art galleries and studios, a cheese maker, leather smith, jeweller, sweet shops, German-style pubs, restaurants, and cafés.

  • The township of Mount Barker, home to the Steamranger Heritage Railway.

  • The Highlander train from Mount Barker to Strathalbyn travelling through the rolling hills, scenic valleys, tall gumtrees and farmland countryside of the region.

  • Strathalbyn’s collection of antique, collectable and speciality stores, heritage buildings and museums.

Our Steamranger Heritage Railway, Adelaide Hills and Hahndorf tour will give you a full day of excitement and memories of a lifetime suited for the independent traveller or the whole family. We can’t wait to show you around the Adelaide Hills.
